In the Summer of 2020, the Waltham Land Trust purchased a trail counter to learn the actual usage of our trails. This information helps with grant applications and conservation efforts.
The counter is NOT A VIDEO CAMERA. It shines an infrared light and marks a count when someone passes through it.
Current interesting insights:
- Summer showed lower usage than other months (mosquitos?)
- 2020 had most overall usage (less cabin fever in 2021-2022?)
- Weekends are most popular and indicate crowds just before and after noon
- 3pm is the most popular time
We'll be making the counter reports available here for all to see. Please send any questions or thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
