Lakeview Preserve

Welcome to Lakeview Preserve!

You are standing on the western shore of Hardy Pond. Hardy Pond is classified as a Great Pond and is owned by the Commonwealth. This 42-acre body of water meets the Massachusetts criteria of a “great pond,” i.e. any pond larger than 10 acres.

Steve and Leah and Giardina owned the property for over 60 years before it was acquired by the Waltham Land Trust (WLT) in 2023. The pond’s dynamic ecosystem requires maintenance and ongoing efforts to improve the water quality and to restore the shoreline. WLT’s intention is to protect this land and the pond while balancing public access.

WLT Stewards are spending many hours working towards this goal. Volunteers are removing invasive plants and replacing them with a diverse mixture of native plants. Future improvements will include designs to improve drainage, provide flood resistance and establish areas for the public to enjoy.

WLT invites you to observe this progress and to do your part in protecting this property.
