Bring your binoculars, cheat sheet from the Warm Up, and check out the wintering waterfowl on our annual walk.

Birds from Canada visit our "warmer" climate in winter, and they love the Charles River. We'll walk along the path next to the river and stop at viewing platforms on our way to Moody Street and back, crossing over the new boardwalk along the Charles River Museum of Industry. Last year we saw two bald eagles before leaving the parking lot! Hooded and common mergansers, ring neck ducks, golden eyes, and all sorts of beautiful avian creatures grace the Charles' icy waters. Download and bring this sheet of common birds of the Charles River to help with identification. Dress warmly and bring binoculars!

This is the one WLT-led walk were dogs are not encouraged. Leashed dogs are allowed on the Charles River pathways, but for this event, the waterfowl we want to see might not hang around if they sense dogs in the area. We are trying to be as inconspicuous as possible (admittedly a challenge when there are lots of people). We'll primarily be standing around being still and quiet, so parents please think twice before bringing young children. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to conduct your own duck walk another time. Don't forget binoculars and the common bird sheet!
