Jeff Collins of Mass Audubon lectures on managing invasive species for the Lexington Conservaton Stewards
An open invitation to anyone concerned about invasive species:
Join the Lexington Conservation Stewards on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Cary Hall as we discuss new strategies for managing invasive plant species with Jeff Collins of Mass Audubon. Jeff will share his experience working with volunteer stewardship groups to conduct strategic planning for invasive species management.
Invasive species are non-native plants whose introduction causes environmental, economic, or health-related harm. Invasive species tend to grow and spread quickly, produce large quantities of easily dispersed seeds, and reproduce vegetatively, all traits that make controlling them a difficult task. Lexington has seen a steady increase of invasive species over the years, including Oriental bittersweet, multiflora rose, common buckthorn, various honeysuckles, garlic mustard, Japanese barberry, and Japanese knotweed.
The April 14 gathering is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For questions, contact 781-862-0500 x240 or email landstewards@ci.lexington.ma.us. Learn more about the Lexington Conservation Stewards at http://www.lexingtonma.gov/conservation/stewards.cfm
