Candidates for the Waltham Land Trust Board
Here are bios of the candidates up for election at the annual meeting.
Marjory Forbes
Marjory Forbes, a nearly life-long resident of Waltham and recently retired teacher, has a strong interest in conservation and protection of open space. She is an active member of the Brookline and Menotomy Bird Clubs and believes that educating the community, particularly children, about ways to care for our environment is important for its future well being. She looks forward to serving on the board of the Waltham Land Trust.
Kate Buttolph
Kate has spent the past 7 years working with land conservation organizations, including the D&R Greenway Land Trust, Massachusetts Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Environmental Law Enforcement, Hunterdon Land Trust, Waltham Land Trust, and the United States Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor. She is currently employed by the Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance (HLTA) as the Director of Land Acquisition. At the Dept. of Interior, she worked on Endangered Species Act enforcement and land acquisition related title work for the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Kate served as a member of the Board of Trustees of D&R Greenway Land Trust for 8 years, while working as in-house counsel to Princeton University. Kate worked for Princeton University from 1986 to 2000, handling a broad variety of legal matters including real estate. She joined the staff of D&R Greenway Land Trust in the spring of 2001. She served as counsel to the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Environmental Law Enforcement, handling land preservation conveyances involving conservation easements and fee purchases. These transactions included a focused preservation effort in north-central Massachusetts, as well as one of the largest cranberry bogs in the country in Hanson and Halifax, Massachusetts. She is a candidate for re-election.
Diana Young
Diana Young has been on the Waltham Land Trust Board of Directors since 2002 and is being re-nominated for a third term. She currently serves as the Vice President and has been the Treasurer of the organization. She is the chair of the Membership and Fundraising Committee and a member of the Program Committee. She is active in several community organizations aside from the Land Trust. She is a member of WCONA, the League of Women Voters and the Fernald Working Group. Diana is a tax lawyer and the Director of Corporate Taxes at Analogic Corporation in Peabody.
